When Ernie Nick and sons David and Brad opened Fraser Valley Building Supplies in 1992, they did so with a vision of providing quality products and unmatched customer service to the homeowners, contractors and builders of Mission. All three had already worked many years in the building supplies industry, and saw an opportunity to build a strong, family-based business in the Fraser Valley.

On February 1, 1992, we opened our store in its original location with 17 employees and 14,000 sq. ft. of retail space. In those days, cash registers were still manual, and contractor accounts were written up on file cards.

In 1995, we became a member of Ace Hardware, the largest buying co-op in the world, and one of the most recognized names in home improvement. Through our partnership, we have been able to offer our customers quality products at competitive prices both in store and through access to a database of more than 88,000 products.

Over the next 20 years, our store expanded several times as we added a 7-acre lumber yard, agricultural barn, a fleet of trucks and more retail space, and introduced new services and products. Our loyal staff, some of whom are still with us today, grew from 17 to 70.

Throughout our history, we have supported and contributed to families and organizations in Mission, a value that is truly ingrained in our culture. We know we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of the Mission community.

In 2015 we opened our newest store, Cloverdale Ace Hardware, in Surrey BC.
